You've Felt This Before, Even If You Didn't Have a Word For It
You walk into a room and something's off before anyone's said a word. Or you meet someone who's perfectly polite, perfectly friendly, and you still can't shake the feeling that something's not right. Most of us have had that experience. Fewer of us have a framework for what it actually is.
I've spent twenty years as a spiritual seeker, and one of the ideas I keep coming back to, across nearly every tradition I've studied, is energetic vibration: the notion that everything, including you, is made of energy moving at a particular frequency, and that frequency shapes what you experience and what you draw toward you.
You don't need to take this as literal physics to find it useful. Think of it more as a way of naming something you already sense intuitively. When you're steeped in gratitude, love, or genuine joy, you carry yourself differently, and people respond to that differently too. When you're steeped in fear, resentment, or grief, that shows up as well, in your posture, your tone, the energy you bring into a room before you've said a word.
What shifts when your energy shifts
When you're operating from a higher, more grounded place, the research and the lived experience tend to agree: people report better emotional regulation, clearer thinking, and relationships that feel less like work. When you're stuck in a heavier state for a long stretch, chronic stress takes a real toll, on your mood, your relationships, your capacity to be present with the people around you. I want to be careful here: this isn't about blaming yourself for illness or hardship that isn't caused by your mindset. It's simply true that carrying chronic stress and disconnection for years does wear on you, and shifting your internal state is one lever you actually have some control over.
A few ways I actually work with this
Gratitude, seriously practiced. Not a vague "count your blessings," but a few minutes each day naming something specific and letting yourself actually feel it, not just list it.
Pay attention to who you're around. Some people leave you steadier. Some leave you depleted. You already know which is which, most of us have just gotten good at ignoring the signal.
Meditation. Even five minutes moves the needle, and it's the fastest tool I know for interrupting a spiral before it fully takes hold.
Time outside. Something in the nervous system settles when you're actually in nature instead of just near a window looking at it. A walk, a hike, ten minutes on a balcony with a plant, it counts.
Affirmations, done honestly. Not empty repetition, but statements you actually work to believe over time, "I am worthy," said until some part of you starts to mean it.
None of this is about forcing yourself into relentless positivity. That's its own kind of exhausting, and it's not what I'm describing here. It's about noticing your own state honestly, and knowing you're not just a passenger in it. You have more say over your own frequency than most of us were ever taught to believe.
