The Language of Desire

Most of us can name what we want in broad strokes ("more confidence," "more chemistry"), but broad strokes are hard to act on. Take a want like that and get specific about what it would actually look, sound, and feel like in your body, then turn it into one present-tense statement you can recognize when it's happening. Once desire has a shape, you can move toward it instead of hoping for it.

Turn a broad want into one specific, recognizable statement.

Step 1

Name a broad want

Keep it simple. This is just your starting point.

Not sure where to start? Tap one to use it, then edit it into your own words.

Step 2

Get specific

If that want were showing up right now, what would you notice?

Step 3

Write it as one present-tense statement

Combine the feeling and the action into one sentence, something you'd instantly know was true if it happened.

Present tense, e.g. "I speak up when something excites me."
